Saul’s main issue is that he did not listen to the Word of God. He chose to disobey what Samuel had told him. One of the excuses Saul gave was that “I was afraid of the people, so I gave in to them.” (15:24) As our society continues to choose darkness over light, we will be pressured more and more by people to disobey God’s Word. We need to commit to fearing the Lord and obeying His commands instead of fearing man and giving into them as Saul did. The consequences of fearing man over God are grave and were experienced by Saul and the people of Israel. We are called to be light in the dark world and salt in a decaying world. May our light shine before others! (Matthew 5:13-16)
